Join us in welcoming one of our newest team members at Casey Peterson, LTD, Derek Bierschbach. He joined us at the beginning of June as an Associate on our Nonprofit and Governmental team. He also interned with us in the summers of 2019 and 2020.

Derek recently earned his master’s degree in professional accountancy alongside his bachelor’s degree in accounting, with a minor in business analytics, from the University of South Dakota.

In his role, Derek completes audits of employee benefit plans, not-for-profit entities, schools, and other governmental entities. He primarily works with clients when requesting documentation on audit engagements. While working with our clients, he tries hard to make sure he’s giving them the most applicable information so they understand what he’s asking for and can handle it efficiently.

Derek has a wide variety of hobbies that keep him busy. He loves classical choral singing and has performed in a cathedral choir and university choirs, which gave him the chance to perform in places like Ely Cathedral in England and Notre Dame in Paris just five weeks before it burned down. Derek’s also passionate about esports and is an avid traveler and hiker.

THREE QUESTIONS:

WHAT ARE TWO ITEMS ON YOUR BUCKET LIST?

  1. Visit every MLB ballpark: I’ve been to 16 of the 30 major league ballparks around the country as a result of multiple road trips, and I collect a ball from each one for my display at home.
  2. Visit as many National Parks Service units as possible: My wife and I have a National Parks passport that contains all 413 units that the NPS oversees, where you can get a stamp at each one to put in the book. We’ve already visited 10 and plan to visit many more this year that the pandemic previously postponed.

WHAT MOVIE CAN YOU WATCH A MILLION TIMES?

Either “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” or the new “Hamilton” film. I could probably recite both of them from beginning to end!

IF YOU COULD VISIT ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD, WHERE WOULD YOU GO AND WHY?

Italy: the food, the music, the art, the history, where can you go wrong?
