Meet one of our new team members, Jewel Lembke, as she gets into the details about herself!
- What’s your name? Jewel Lembke
- What’s your title? Non-CPA Associate
- When did you start? Late November 2024
- What do you do here? On the Tax Team!
- Where did you or do you go to school, and if you got a degree, what was it in? I actually started my higher education as a Veterinary Technology major (graduated in 2012 with my associate degree) but switched career track in 2020 and went back to college and in 2022 graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Business Admin with a focus on Accounting (CPA track) from Chadron State College.
- What did you do before you came to the firm? Immediately before coming to Casey Peterson, I worked for Dana F. Cole as a staff accountant working on both their audit and tax teams. I mostly worked on governmental audits however! Before that I was a licensed vet tech (with credentials in 3 states at once!) for 8 years.
- What did you want to be when you grew up? Not an accountant! I wanted to be a veterinarian!
- What do you do for fun? I love horses and dancing! For the past few years, I’ve been involved in the sport of Ranch Sorting and also did Ballet and competitive Jazz dance! After moving to Hemingford in 2023 to start a family, I put these hobbies on hiatus for the time being but can’t wait to get back to them! In the meantime, I love getting out to brandings with my little family and having adventures with my little gremlin, Ava, on the ranch!
- What’s your favorite book? “All the Pretty Horses” by Cormac McCarthy. It’s a great novel set post-WWII about a young man that runs off to Mexico to work as a vaquero and train horses. Along the way he gets caught up in some wild happenings and the book explores themes of culture clashes, loss, fate, and the brutal passage of the main characters as they transition to adulthood. I even have an excerpt from the book as a tattoo! (Yes, there is a movie version with Matt Damon. No, the movie is not as good as or better than the book.)
- What’s your favorite podcast? “We Don’t Have Time for This” or “Stuff You Should Know”
- Who’s your favorite band? I’m a huge music lover with extremely varied tastes so I genuinely don’t think I could choose! But my top 5 artists on Spotify for 2024 were: Chapell Roan, Zach Bryan, Claude Debussy, Dylan Gossett, and the Bluey Theme Song. (That last one is my go-to in the car when my kid has lost her patience with the car seat!)
- What’s your favorite song? Again, I’m not sure I could choose so I’ll cheat and use my top 5 songs of 2024 from my Spotify! “Pink Pony Club’’ Chapell Roan, “I remember everything”-Zach Bryan, “Something in the Orange” – Zach Bryan “Suite Bergamasque, Clair de Lune” Claude Debussy, ‘’Coal’’ Dylan Gosset.
- What’s on your bucket list? To have a beautifully made café au lait and eat a fresh croissant while watching the sun come up over Paris, France.
